Overview
Woven Narrative is a typographic exploration that brings together two distinct stories with overlapping themes to create a single, layered visual narrative. This project investigates how typography can function as more than just a vehicle for language—becoming a storytelling medium in its own right.
By identifying conceptual connections between the two narratives, I designed a piece that visually weaves their ideas together through typographic form, rhythm, and composition. The result is a hybrid story that emphasizes contrast, harmony, and the emotional resonance that can emerge when multiple voices are brought into dialogue.
Approach
In Woven Narrative, I combined Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own and James Baldwin’s The Creative Process—two essays that explore the conditions and responsibilities of the artist from different perspectives. Woolf emphasizes the need for personal space and freedom, while Baldwin highlights the artist’s duty to challenge societal truths. Through typography, I visualized the tension and overlap between these ideas: Woolf’s voice appears structured and quiet, symbolizing introspection, while Baldwin’s is bold and dynamic, reflecting confrontation and urgency. The result is a layered composition that weaves these voices together, using type to explore how identity, space, and social responsibility shape creative expression.
